Description

The adults “Intro to Sewing” classes are designed especially for adults who would like to learn how to use a sewing machine, or who may know the basics and would like a refresher to rebuild their confidence.  The classes are loosely structured as follows:

1. Introductory class – get to know you session over a cuppa, discuss experience, choose a project or two you’d like to do, plan for future lessons (materials and equipment you need). 1 hour
2. Lesson 1 – Get started on your project.  Usually 1-2 hours.
3. Lesson 2 and further lessons – working on your project. Usually 1-2 hours each.

Classes are limited to a maximum of four so that everyone receives individualised instruction.

There number of lessons you attend depends on your project and what you would like to learn.  Throughout the lessons we will cover essential knowledge and skills needed to build confidence and a solid foundation for future sewing ventures.  This includes parts of a sewing machine and their function(s), safe use of a sewing machine, how to use and adjust stitches, the basics of reading an easy pattern, and different types of fabrics.

We have some simple projects to get started on and project options include: a pin cushion, tote bag, cushion cover, shorts, pencil case, tool roll, place mats, napkins, table runners.  You are very welcome to come with your own project in mind.

The classes cost $40/hour.

Included in each class:

• sewing machine hire (if needed)
• a display book with reference information and patterns
• Light refreshments
